#292: A Little Help for Our Friends
A subscription offer that supports World Central Kitchen during the L.A. Fires
I grew up in Santa Barbara about 100 miles north of Pacific Palisades. Earthquake, fire and flood were always at the back of our minds. I was six when I first saw orange flames at night licking the tops of the mountains surrounding our city. I remember Santa Ana winds, smokey air, smarting eyes, ashes falling on cars. I heard the word evacuation and had no idea what it meant. During one fire, my dad’s limos from his mortuary were called into service to transport boarding students from the school on the hill behind our home that I later attended. We were lucky—we never had to evacuate. But these fires were nothing like the destruction and upheaval that is happening in Los Angeles right now. Lives lost. Pets lost. Memories lost. Current and childhood homes gone. Schools, churches, restaurants, stores, parks and playgrounds all gone. Neighborhoods in shambles. The devastation is unimaginable. I am touched by Ruth Stroud’s memories of her first home in a Pacific Palisades trailer park that is now completely burned out. Her husband, Jefferson Graham writes about the importance of backing up documents & photos and how to do it. I think of what is in my own to go bag in case of emergency.
How We Can Help
World Central Kitchen is where I am donating to help those in need and I invite you to donate. too.
Through the end of January, paid subscriptions (both monthly and annual) are 25% off and I will donate 100% of what is received during this time to World Central Kitchen (minus the 10% newsletter service fee and Stripe processing fees, which are automatically deducted by the two providers.)
Please use the link below if you can help.
I will give an update of the number of subscriptions that come in and how much we raise together and send through your generosity.
Here is the link to World Central Kitchen if you would like to donate directly.

Beautiful. Yes the devastation is unimaginable. My husband grew up in the Palisades and have family there that have been there for years that have lost their homes as well as our daughter, husband and family losing their home and entire entire neighborhood . Their hearts extend to others as they continue to work overseeing others and the mutual grief the community has in common. Our hearts and resources are being utilized to the immediate needs. The outreach of the many is heartfelt. Much Love, Mary Jane
Already a member so I will donate on my own. It all feels so big and so devastating! I hope my one small bit is joined by a lot of other small bits to help. Thanks Kate.
