#95: Family is Everything
Family photos. Family history. Family memories. I wish there were more.
Last week my dad would have been 107. He died at age 54 so 107 is nearly twice the length of time he lived. His father was a McDermott and his mother an O’Leary.
THE MCDERMOTT’S
I don’t know too much about the McDermott’s before they settled in Chicago in the 1850s. On a trip to Ireland in 2019 I make the pilgrimage to Lough Key Lake in County Roscommon to see… at a distance…McDermott’s Castle. The castle is but a burned-out shell but it has quite a rich history.1
I visit nearby Boyle Abbey2 where long ago relatives may be buried.
