I have no idea if there is such a thing as ‘Procrasti-Crafting’ but if there is, I am most definitely a practitioner and enthusiastic supporter of all those who, like me, are seasoned professionals at putting off must-do’s. When I have looming deadlines—I walk; when I need to be weeding—I read; when I should be doing laundry and cleaning…well, you get the idea.1
One day, I see a friend’s colorful potholders in a picture online and think...
Oh, such happy colors! I must do this, too!
I find the kit online and place an order. When the box arrives a few days later, I set it on my ‘craft-dining-sewing-everything-else’ table, and open it up. Inside there’s a green metal loom, a few weaving tools, and lots of colorful loops that spill out like a giggling baby.
Oh yes! Deadlines, weeds, and dust bunnies can wait. I jump right in organizing colors, weaving the loops, and thirty minutes later I’ve finished my first creation. I feel, happy, relaxed and inspired. This is way cheaper than therapy and I can gift them to friends, too!
The loops in the first kit make six potholders2 and, after blasting through those in less than a week, I order the 5# ‘therapy-sized’ bag and make more to give as gifts for holidays, birthdays, and everydaze. My little creations find their way in to photo sessions, too. Hmmmm, I wonder, can I write-off Procrasti-crafting supplies as a business expense?
When Leigh and Eric, my dear van-traveling friends of As We Eat Journal, come for a stay last year, we drink G&Ts, make pizza and popcorn, and binge watch Ted Lasso,3 while Leigh makes a set of potholders to take out on the road. A ‘hygge’ moment for sure.4
So dear friends, are you a Procrasti-Crafter, too?
And if the pictures in this post bring you a smile too, please click on the little ❤️ below ⬇.
I have spent many happy hours procrasti-baking…I mean studying pie.
