I hear The earth, the air, the fire, the water, as you splash your morning face, Kate…

Just read The Library Book by Susan Orlean, followed by Fahrenheit 451 (a natural follow from Library Book). Love A Gentleman from Moscow by Towles, and, a book club story read now: Empire of Pain about the Sackler family…some rather heavy, but all interesting….Toni

I used to play listen to their tapes (not even CDs back then) and sing along with them! I'm so glad you remember them too, Ann.

What a perfectly wonderful day! As to reading… I also read Amor Towles’ latest, but his other two were also wonderful, especially a Gentleman in Moscow. Absolutely everything by Roland Merullo is exceptional! Read them in order though, as the characters pop in an out in several of the books. Looking forward to my first virtual pie camp in April! Thank you!

I'm really enjoying Roland Merullo...I'm out of order with the first I'm reading but when I finish will start from the beginning. Thank you for your paid subscription and see you in April, Cathy!

I've kept a book list for years. Top three in last two months are Once There Were Wolves; The Sweetness of Water; and The Last Thing He Told Me.

Also, The Great American Read, an incredible PBS 5-part series in 2018, had viewers vote on their favorite books. (And, yes,To Kill A Mockingbird won #1.👏 ) You can get the top 100 American Books list here ... https://www.thirteen.org/blog-post/the-100-books-on-the-great-american-read-list. And It also has a very active/helpful Facebook group for recommending books and more. https://www.facebook.com/GreatAmericanReadPBS

I just finished Stanley Tucci’s memoir, TASTE, MY LIFE THROUGH FOOD. So good! Now I’m trying to figure out how I can have dinner with him—-cooked by him!😊

I loved Rick Bass' book "The Traveling Feast" - he narrates the audio version and its exquisite! Virginia Grohl's book "From Cradle to Stage" - she also narrates and is a wonderful interviewer. ALL of Patti Smith's books - just love her so much! "Between Two Kingdoms" by Suleika Jaouad - I met her at a conference years ago (of course she gave great kudos to nurses). "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. "The Delight of Being Ordinary" - by Roland Merullo - very fun book about a road trip with the Pope and the Dalai Lama.

Thanks, Jolene. It's a little look into the sweet and quiet life I'm now enjoying. There were years when it was pretty chaotic. I'm grateful for this slower tempo.

I love old mysteries, but I also love to read about history. The last two books I read were: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (a 1944 copy purchased at a library book sale for $2 - who doesn't love a bargain!) by Capt. Ted Lawson; and the second book was The Young Elizabeth by Kate Williams, about the youth of current Queen Elizabeth. Next on my list is a very large and heavy book about dinosaurs.

Oh yes! I love that you have such a wide variety of interests! Do you like the old Nero Wolfe mysteries by Rex Stout?

Expand full comment

Yes, I do! I have several old copies and always look for more.

I used to have a copy of the Nero Wolfe cookbook. Love his house manager, Fritz! What a great series it was. Did you know his sister was "the naked gardener?"

I didn't know that. Also, if you go to www.abebooks.com you will find a number of the cookbooks available, but they are somewhat pricey. I also checked www.goodwillbooks.com, but they had none listed.
