The newsletter is always so well written and I treasure the articles and recipes that are pie whether savory or sweet. This outdoor technique is spot on and allows the reader to be drawn in to the visual aspects of successful outdoor baking techniques! Thank you...

Wow! Thank you for your kind words, Mary Jane! I had a wonderful time making it and wrote an even more detailed version for Pie Camp: The Skills You Need to Make Any Pie You Want but there wasn't room for it. In fact, I wrote an additional 150 pages or so that didn't make it because of space limitations. Anyway, it's wonderful to be able to post it here.

I forgot to add in the piece to be sure to put a cast iron trivet in the Dutch oven to set the pie plate on to keep the bottom crust from burning.
