Bravo Kate! I have been thinking of leaving FB for a while now, too. In fact, I have not posted in months, preferring instead to focus on photos of my nieces and nephew then jump out. Write on, Kate, write on...
Lovely to read your words this morning, Amy. Does one attain lurker status if no posting? Asking for a friend. (Never used that phrase in this context before.)
Congratulations for walking away from FB and Instagram. I was a very early user and loved it. It was fun. Then somewhere along the way it changed. By 2014 I stopped posting and only checked in to say happy birthday to people. "May the force be with you!!"
I agree! So much of if just feels like a popularity contest in school and, quite honestly, one that I will never play well as I don't care to learn all the fancy schmancy behind the scenes SEO stuff one needs to do in order to be placed up high with social media algorithms. And "Also with you!"
Iz always makes me cry. We played this version of Somewhere Over the 🌈 Rainbow at my brother's funeral. As a 12 year Ovarian Cancer survivor I agree with you. Life is for living. My social media "presence" is posting meaningful poems. By the way, I wore the pink 🤠 hat that you knit me years ago at a local protest a few days ago. Saw this on a t-shirt: "Equal rights for others doesn't mean less rights for you. It's not pie". Hope you have a wonderful day. 🥧
I am overjoyed and honored to know that "our" hat is still out there making a strong statements! I am so very sorry for the loss of your brother. And congratulations on 12 years. May you 12 x 12 more!
Kate, all of this. All of it. FWIW, I have seldom found readers through social media, anyway. So many "likes" and comments are performative: People who are addicted to social media are seldom interested in what reading lies beyond it, because they're addicted to social media. Lots of reasons why walking away is hard, and even more reasons to do it anyway. Thank you.

And thank YOU for your words.
Love all of this. And thank you for taking at least one picture so that we could enjoy that fantastic rainbow!
It was sooo beautiful. Really one of those where you stop everything and say “wow wow wow!”
