Charles Trenet's La Mer was the very first record - 78rpm - I ever bought myself, along with Jean Sablon's Sur Le Pont d'Avignon. I was twelve. They remain among my most loved songs. I've remained a devotee of French popular music since - a very very long time.
Interesting aside. I could walk into a record store on a main Street in a North American town and find them easily. Now .... I pick up my phone and search the app.
