I lived in Renton Washington for 20 years, which is just doors of Sumner, about 30 miles. I never knew that Sumner was the rhubarb capital of the United States. My husband loved a good rhubarb pie, so I would always make him one when I could find fresh rhubarb.
My grandmother had a patch of rhubarb in our backyard as I was growing up and she made lots of pies from it while it was in season. I'm sorry to say, I'm not a fan. It is just a flavor that doesn't work for me.
Your recipes sure do look wonderful though. Maybe I can substitute another fruit, maybe strawberries? They are in season now here in Florida.
Wonderful story and great pictures! I just received some freshly picked rhubarb from my neighbor as a thank you for a few slices of pie I brought over to them earlier today! I look forward to making some yummy baked goods with the recipes you have included in the article!
What a great post, Kate! Loved the photos (and, the apron!) see you at Tea next Tuesday. 🫖 💕 🥧
There is one photo of Ruth at the beach that somehow didn't make it into the post. I'll share it on Tuesday!

It's such a wonderful pie! Great with custard sauce, too.
Looking forward to trying the recipes
I hope you like them Susan!
You are making me hungry.
