Your story is a familiar one to me. I was adopted and not able to find my birth family until Pennsylvania finally allowed adopted children to access their original birth certificates in, 2019. It didn't take me long to find my birth mother's family, but I was still an only child there. My mother never married and died in 2011. I'm in touch with her brothers and half sister.

It took a little longer to find my father's side of the family but BOY did I find family! All together, there were 10 of us! Myself and another half sister are the only ones not part of the nuclear family. One brother died of Covid in 2021. I'm in touch with two of my sisters and a cousin who is like a dear, dear friend. I met one of my brothers in 2021 as well. We look alike! There is going to be a big family reunion next year but since I'm disabled, I doubt I can attend. But living all my life thinking I was alone, having no other living being who was associated with me, was upended. In a very good way!

Happy Yule and Merry Christmas!

What a wonderful outcome! I, too, was born in a state (California) which sealed files for those of us who were born in a fifty year period. When writing papers for Ethics and Philosophy of Law classes at university, I researched the rights of all parts of the birth triangle. In that process, I learned these files were sealed in perpetuity unless "good cause" could be shown to the court which was decided on a case by case basis. Just wanting to know "who am I" would not be considered "good cause." Years later I learned that for the right amount of money, one can get pretty much any piece of information. It's a long story and one I most likely will write about here, as well.

Thanks so much for sharing YOUR story, Mel, and Season's Greetings to you and ALL of your family!

Kate

I have no martini glasses no vodka or pomegranate or orange or lime, but I raise a mug of Tulsi Tea to you for a life well lived. 💖

Thank you dearest friend. A neighbor just came over with some apples and whiskey. I made a pie with the apples while we visited, and made a solstice toast to all with the whiskey. 💗

At 75 ... just found a half brother and also the news that my father was not a biological parent. Since I am not close to my current half and full siblings ... full siblings are now half siblings.... am enjoying building a relationship with my new brother...

Brrrr....it's a balmy 25F in Port Angeles and my twelve fluffs are still laying ten eggs a day! Apparently that are from very hearty stock.
