6/9/23 UPDATE: The first cataract procedure went splendidly! All is well.
Before I head off for my cataract surgery tomorrow, I want to share a couple of fun things with you.
First is a sweet poem and picture from Around the Year by Elsa Beskow.
JUNE
First Summer is here,
the lake so mild.
Summer has come
to the water-child.
We'll take the boat
and row to an isle.
We'll bathe in the water,
leave our clothes in a pile.
We'll play at boats,
we'll splash and tease.
The sun is so warm
and so is the breeze.
A June day it is
when all is green.
We'll row through the reeds
and never be seen.
First summer is here,
the lake is so mild.
Summer has come
to the water-child.
What’s Your Core Gift?
Next is a very recent conversation I had with Bruce and Bria Anderson who have come to multiple Art of the Pie events both in-person and virtual. This time I came to them to learn about the work they do at Core Gift Institute, a world-wide program that Bruce created in 2016. I loved the process and I hope you will give a listen. You’ll find more information about Core Gift at www.coregift.org.
Congratulations!
just received a James Beard Award in the category of Dining and Travel for her Substack Newsletter . Hanna is one heck of a journalist and I was first introduced to her work when she wrote for The Seattle Weekly. In her final column there, she wrote, “it’s been my foremost goal to stimulate thoughtful conversation about what we eat and why we eat it.” And that is just what she does. How to Make ANY Fresh Fruit Pie: July 9th
I’ll be teaching what I think might just be mother of all pie classes coming up. On July 9th I’ll be sharing ratios, recipes, tips and tricks to make pretty much ANY fresh (or frozen) fruit pie you like in ANY size pie pan, too. My goal is that you finish the session feeling like you can go to the farmers market, your garden, or the produce section in your store and come home with fruit and confidently turn it in to a delicious pie. I’ll be walking you through the process of making dough, too! If you only take one class from me, THIS is the one. Here’s the link to register.
OK, my dear friends! Keep those good thoughts coming and see you next week after cataract surgery #1!
Kate
