# 423: This was Unexpected
What a difference a day makes, right? And a recipe for Under the Weather Chicken Soup to make it better.

This was Unexpected
The week started off great! I had lots of energy to finish up projects and final things done for my very first renter, not for The Little House as it’s not quite done yet, but the extra bedroom in the cottage. There was quite a bit to do for their month long stay and I’m really pleased with how the room has turned out. I was even able to create a convenience kitchen!

I am busy keeping up on recipe testing and getting the information out for the upcoming virtual classes for Augus and was so looking forward to my reward … riding the Tour de Lavender this weekend. BUT I’ve just come down with a needle sharp sore throat and energy level of something less than optimal. The flashing caution signs are telling me that alas, Arrow and I won’t be riding the 35-mile tour that I’ve been looking forward to since last year’s ride.
Yes, I’m disappointed but things do happen for a reason and maybe that reason is to chillax a bit instead of my usual up around 6AM and going until, well, many times to midnight! As I’ve always worked for myself that’s how it’s pretty much always been so at a youthful seventy-three there’s no harm in taking some days off, take a look at how much I’m doing and spread it out over more days so I can stay youthful.
I’ve sent my regrets to a few others for things I had planned on doing as well …. a walk with another dog mom today, and a preview of a chef’s Youtube episode about food and the outdoors on my beloved Olympic Peninsula tomorrow. Bosco and I can share a walk with them another day and I can always catch the replay of the YouTube when it goes live.
I’m making this healing broth that I’ve made for decades and included in Home Cooking with Kate McDermott. Then I’ll cuddle up with Bosco, a good book, and a mug of healing broth and “work” on getting this small inconvenience over as soon as possible.
Stay well and have a great weekend everyone!
Kate and Bosco
P.S. The recipe is open to all because you never know when you might need it.
