Silvery Moon (1933)
I go down a rabbit hole late last night and find a treasure trove of old, I mean very old, cartoons. Silvery Moon, a six minute romp from 1933, features the tune “Moonlight Bay”, a melody you might even recognize, at least I do as it is one of the songs I remember my dad whistling in the mornings while shaving, and quite the whistler he was with a lovely vibrato, too. I, on the other hand, can’t whistle worth beans!
Silvery Moon takes us on a fantastical journey to the moon which we learn is not made of green cheese but of cake, candy and ice cream as you’ll see in this tiny clip!
So, as a little diversion for your Saturday, below is Silvery Moon. I can only imaging what fun the animators were having and wonder if there were some magic pill they have taken to be so creative. It’s six minutes that will leave you smiling.
Enjoy!
Something that you can do for me is to heart ❤️ this post and leave a comment. It not only lets me know that you are stopping by but this really helps my ratings on Substack, too. Thank you!
I vaguely remember "Silvery Moon" as a child. Thanks for the memory!
Love it!. Now you go me stuck in this rabbit hole: It's either her or Betty boop and they go to this sort of Rube Goldberg beauty parlor. Spit out at the end all beautiful and sashayed down the street. I think I was home from school sick. Wanted to find a place like that!
