#195: It's a Chai Toddy Kind of Day
A chai recipe with a little kick and a special October discount.
In the fall of 2022, I visited Kathi Langelier, the creator of Herbal Revolution, and her husband Gus on their beautiful 23-acre farm in Union, Maine. She is an amazing herbalist and they grow most of the herbs that go into the teas, tonics, elixirs and body products that she creates. Kathi and Gus graciously took time out of their very busy day to show me around the farm and their home.
The land they live on was the territory and home of the Abenaki and Wabanaki indigenous people. Kathi isn’t sure when white colonists started living in the area but the town of Union was established 250 years ago.
Gus is lovingly restoring the over 200-year old farmhouse. The original hand-hewn beams and wide planks must have many stories to tell.
Next we headed off to the barn to visit the goats…
I was astounded to see apple trees about the same age as the house that are still producing!
Just down the road is where Kathi creates.
I’ve been coffee free for two years now (which you can read about here), so I’m always on the look out for alternatives to enjoy. When I learned she created a Chaga Chai blend, I bought some along with some of her other herbal creations to take back home with me. The chaga mushroom was already on my radar and I’d been brewing it in the mornings, but chaga chai? I’d never tried that. Kathi’s chai is right up there with the best. I loved it and, after blowing through my first container, I ordered more immediately.
Kathi also created a Chaga Chai Hot Toddy and it really hits the spot for me. I asked if she might share her recipe with us and she said “Yes.” Thank you, Kathi!
But, even more exciting is that Kathi is offering us 15% off on the Chaga Chai and anything else at her webstore (excluding Dried Herbs and Gift Cards) until the end of this month (October 2023). You’ll find all the specifics and a link just after the recipe.
